The World’s largest Arts and Crafts festival, Surajkund Mela 2017 has finally arrived in Haryana. The Surajkund Mela that started in the year 1981 marks its 31st edition this year and has been dedicated to the State of Jharkhand. With over 20 countries participating in the fortnight-long Mela from 1 to 15 February 2017, Tanzania, Tunisia, Mongolia, Zimbabwe and South Africa will make their debut at the Surajkund Mela this year.
The Surajkund Mela is organized every year by the Haryana Tourism Department to help artists and talents from all over India to showcase some of the exceptional demonstrations of the unique products that will most definitely capture your heart. Located in Faridabad near Delhi, this 10th-century reservoir sees a footfall of more than 1.2 million Indian and 160,000 foreigners visitors every year during the Mela. The rural ambiance is what makes this celebration of culture and traditions more appealing.
From Madhubani paintings to Chhau dance, Surajkund Mela 2017 pays tribute to Jharkhand!
The theme of the Surajkund Mela 2017 is dedicated to the State of Jharkhand while the partner of the festival is the Land of the Nile, Egypt. The celebrate is a tribute to the Jharkhand’s famous Dhokra art, Madhubani painting, Chhau dance, its music and much more. Furthermore, the festival this year has been called “Egypt by the Ganga” on this occasion.
The folk extravaganza offers more culture than you can ever imagine, with evenings dedicated to performances at the Al Fresco theater and the countryside settings prove to be the perfect backdrop for the traditional Natyashala dancers.
